Advanced delivery configuration with parcel sizes and eDelivery
Advanced delivery configuration is available for PRO Subscription and allows configuring the price and availability of delivery based on the type and quantity of ordered products, as well as the implementation of eDelivery for intangible products.
This enables not only dynamic pricing based on parcel size but also the ability to disable delivery for a group of selected products (or situations where the order contains too many items to physically fit into a package).
STEP 1: Define the dimensions of your parcels
From your Admin panel, perform the following steps:
- Go to Settings –> Delivery methods and click on the “Parcel sizes” tab.
- Click the “Edit” icon next to the selected item (or use a double-click).
- Enter your own parcel size name and its description.
- Confirm by clicking the “Apply” button.
Please note! Remember that subsequent parcel sizes must be arranged in ascending order in terms of their size and potential delivery cost – from the smallest possible to the largest (or custom) parcel.
STEP 2: Assign the selected parcel sizes to all delivery methods
- Go to Settings –> Delivery methods and click the “Edit” button (or double-click) on the delivery method to which you want to assign specific parcel sizes.
- Enable the parcel sizes that your delivery method supports.
- Enter the delivery cost for each parcel size.
- Confirm by clicking the “Apply” button.
The base delivery price is only applied to orders consisting of products that do not have an assigned parcel size.
STEP 3: Configure parcel sizes for each product
- Go to Settings –> Products.
- Find the product for which you want to specify parcel sizes and click the “Edit” icon (or click on the product tile).
- Go to the “Product delivery” section.
- From the “Delivery type” dropdown list on the right, select “By parcel size” (1). A new section called “Parcel size tiers” will appear.
- Select the available parcel size for the edited product from the dropdown list on the right (2).
- If you want to assign more parcel sizes to the product based on the ordered quantity, click the “+” button on the right (3). A new size tier will appear.
- Specify the parcel size for the new size tier, e.g., the first one is “Small,” the next one is “Medium,” etc. (4).
- Use the “up” and “down” arrows to increase or decrease the minimum number of products for which the order will be fulfilled in the appropriate parcel (5).
- Save the configuration by clicking the “Apply” button.
You can also choose the “eDelivery” type for a product. Such a product will be treated as intangible and will not require any form of delivery. If the basket contains only products with eDelivery, the customer will not be asked about the delivery method at all.
Summary
This configuration allows for the automatic selection of parcel sizes for the offered products. By default, this selection is made based on the largest parcel indicated for the product.
Example:
Product “A” has the following configuration:
Product “B” has the following configuration:
If the basket contains: 3 units of product A and 1 unit of product B, the required parcel size will be Medium. The customer will only be able to choose from delivery methods that support this parcel size (at the price specified for this size). Other delivery methods will be unavailable.
The effect of such settings in the basket looks as follows:
Option to sum quantities for determining parcel size
Additionally, within a category, we can enforce that the quantities of ordered products are summed for the purpose of determining the parcel size.
You can enable this function as follows:
- Go to Settings –> Products.
- Select the product category for which you want to enable the summing by quantity function (e.g., Photo Mugs –> With Spoon).
- Go to the “Tiers rule” section.
- Use the switch to enable the summing by quantity function. From now on, the parcel size for ordered products will be determined automatically.
- Save the configuration by clicking the “Apply” button.
Our example will then look as follows:
Product “A” has the following configuration:
Product “B” has the following configuration:
If the basket contains: 3 units of product “A” and 1 unit of product “B” from a category with summing by quantity enabled, the total number of products will be considered for determining the parcel size, i.e., 4 units. According to the settings, the suitable parcel for product “A” is “Medium” and for product “B” is “Large.” Due to summing, the “Large” parcel will be selected for the order. The customer will be offered delivery methods that support the “Large” parcel along with the price set for this size.
